The Kuranda Scenic Railway — The Great Rainforest Journey

Built between 1882 and 1891, the Kuranda Scenic Railway climbs 328 metres through fifteen hand-cut tunnels and over forty-eight bridges from Cairns to Kuranda. The workers who built it — Chinese labourers, Irish immigrants, and local contractors — blasted through solid rock with black powder and hand drills in one of the most demanding construction projects in Australian history. The result is still one of the great heritage rail journeys on the continent. Not because of its speed or its luxury, but because every window is a painting.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway — Above The Canopy

The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway offers a perspective that almost no other experience in Australia can match: a gondola floating above a continuous expanse of World Heritage tropical rainforest, with the Coral Sea glittering beyond and the range rising ahead. Stop at Red Peak and walk into the forest at ground level. Stop at Barron Falls Station to look directly across the gorge at one of Queensland’s most magnificent waterfalls.

For the most seamless experience, book your Scenic Railway and Skyrail tickets in advance, these are popular, and preferred departure times sell quickly, especially in peak season.
