Arrive the Way the Place Deserves
The journey to Kuranda is its own experience. Board the Kuranda Scenic Railway at Cairns Central Station and spend nearly two hours winding through dense tropical rainforest, across heritage bridges and through hand-cut tunnels blasted into the mountain by Chinese labourers in the 1880s. Or glide above the canopy on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, stepping off at Red Peak Station to walk the forest floor before continuing to Kuranda station. Many visitors choose to arrive one way and return the other — and find themselves speechless either way.
Walk Into Living History
The Barron Falls — especially at full thunder after the wet season — are one of North Queensland’s great natural spectacles. The Rainforest Boardwalk takes you through protected World Heritage rainforest at ground level, where the tree roots are wider than cars and the undergrowth is alive with movement. The Army Duck tours at Rainforestation take you through genuine floodplain wetlands in a World War II amphibious vehicle — an experience that children remember for decades.
Discover the Djabugay Country
Kuranda sits on the traditional country of the Djabugay people.
