Kur-Cow Barnwell Farm — Where The Rainforest Meets The Ranch
A few kilometres outside Kuranda village, the road opens up and the forest gives way to farmland. Kur-Cow Barnwell Farm is the kind of place you don’t expect to find in Tropical North Queensland — a working property with horses, cattle, alpacas, chickens, and open paddocks running right to the edge of the World Heritage rainforest. It is one of the most distinct contrasts the Kuranda region offers, and one of the most memorable parts of many visitors’ days.
Whether you’ve spent the morning on the Scenic Railway and the markets, or you’re looking for something that feels completely different from the rainforest experience, the farm delivers something rare: the feeling of open space, working animals, and a sunset that seems to go on longer here than anywhere else.
Horse Riding — The Unhurried Way To See The Property
The guided horse rides at Kur-Cow take you through the property on quiet, well-handled horses, passing through farmland, along the rainforest edge, and through paddocks where cattle graze in the afternoon light. This isn’t a high-intensity activity — it’s a slow, companionable ride that gives you time to look properly at the landscape around you.
One-hour rides are available, and the farm is a short drive or transfer from Kuranda village. Good for all experience levels.
ATV Tours — Something For The Adventurous
For those who want more speed and more ground covered, the ATV quad bike tours offer a different kind of experience through the property — a little louder, a little faster, and just as much fun. The farm runs combination horse and ATV packages for groups and families who want to do both.
The Petting Zoo — Excellent For Families

Getting To Kur-Cow Barnwell Farm
The farm is located a short drive from Kuranda village — approximately 10 to 15 minutes depending on your starting point. Transfers from Cairns and Kuranda are available when booked as part of a tour package. The farm is open daily for bookings.
